Between 1962 and 1983 the smallest capacity class in motorcycle grand prix racing was 50cc. For the 1984 season the capacity was raised to 80cc. The class ran until 1989 before being dropped from the GP calendar.
The main rules for the class was a limit of one cylinder and a maximum of six gears. Numerous small european companys manufactured 80cc grand prix racers. Among these were Autisa, Casal, Derbi, Eberhardt, Huvo, Krauser, Seel, Real and Zundapp.
Eberhardts were manufactured in Germany and approximately seven bikes were manufactured in total.
